J. Steven Dorough

First Community Development is under the management of founder and Chief Executive Officer J. Steven Dorough. Steve has been associated with fundraising for the past 26 years, either on the client side or as a provider. During his career, he has directed campaigns throughout the South, raising a total of more than $50 million for vital community programs.

Steve began his fundraising career in 1968 while serving as an executive with the Birmingham, AL, Chamber of Commerce. In 1989, he became a professional fundraising counselor and subsequently formed First Community Development in 1994.

Steve has worked with numerous chambers of commerce, economic development authorities, downtown revitalization agencies, colleges, universities, cultural and performing arts organizations and churches throughout the southeast United States. The high volume of repeat campaigns is a testament to the skill and professional manner with which Steve conducts each of his projects.

Whether he is directing a community to develop their vision and strategic plan...conducting a comprehensive feasibility analysis...or supervising a successful fundraising initiative, Steve is the consumate professional. And each of the members of the First Community Development Team reflect the same intense drive and determination to succeed on behalf of their client organizations.

Steve is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, AL. He resides with his family in suburban northeast Atlanta.
